Retro Robots Studio

Futures that never happened.

I design retro-futuristic robots inspired by past eras—built from vintage machines, old ideas, and imagined technology. This site documents the process as I experiment with design, Blender, and animation.

Designs

Exploring 1950s retro-futurism with this piece.
The robot design was sketched by hand, inspired by vintage household appliances (mixers, radios, and early electronics) to capture that optimistic “future of home living” feel from the era.
I then used AI to help generate a 1950s-style advertisement poster based on the design—mainly to explore how it might have been presented as a product at the time.
I’m really interested in how past design eras imagined the future—and how those ideas can be reinterpreted today.
Curious what stands out (or doesn’t) to others.

From the original I made:

I thought for the paint sets maybe colors like these

Paint Sets I wish existed!

I created these designs. If I owned a paint company this is what I would do!

Working on some new projects.

I’ve been experimenting with combining laser engraving and watercolor on basswood while working on some retro-futurism robot designs.
This piece was engraved on a small wooden canvas (600 mm/min, 40% power) and then painted with watercolor. I’m curious how the mix of engraved line work and soft paint comes across.
Does the watercolor add to the piece, or would a more graphic approach work better?
Still learning and experimenting, so I’d really appreciate hearing what others notice or would change.

Using Nomad Sculpt, I design and made these on my 3d Printer. Still learning Nomad Sculpt. I am also taking Blender 5.0 classes. I am hoping between the both of these, I am able to really 3d print with detail.

I finished a couple more layered in wood retro futuristic projects.
